There are many misconceptions about fertility. We are all led to believe that we can control childbirth, from the lies in titles like 'How to Have a Healthy Child' to the idea that a 'designer' baby is going to emerge exactly as we imagine. IDENTICAL TWINS
I'm interested in identical twins. I don't want to study them from the outside, but to try and look at the world from their perspective. Perhaps if you`re a twin, it`s the life of a singleton which seems very strange. Much of my writing is about this - trying to find a new view on a familiar subject.
DISABILITY
The portrayal of people with disabilities is a subject I've written about in various ways for some years. (For example, in 'See It My Way' in my Journalism section.) More recently, I was disturbed by the unquestioning revival of the classic The Secret Garden on stage - see www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,1388161,00.html I will continue to return to this subject.
BURLESQUE
I've developed a passion for burlesque, and finding out about the women who worked as dancers and strippers when burlesque was at its height. Perhaps that's because of my own work in the circus, where I, too, wore fishnets and feathers.
